Carow · Architects
· Plus planned and designed the new 26,000 square foot library for the Village of Oak Brook, just to the west of Chicago. Mr. Carow selected a site for this library as a part of the Village's Sports Core placing the building half among existing woods and half viewing out onto the large open fields. The plan is composed of seven circles each housing a major functional area of the library. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide views out to the open fields or to enclosed landscaped courtyards as outdoor rooms. An underfloor plenum provides draft-free fresh air with flexible locations for diffusers, power and communications. Library users and staff have praised the building for its quality of light, vistas from the windows, ease of use, and overall feeling of comfort.
